Fast becoming aware that talks of a managerial position were just empty promises, Babe Ruth bowed out from a game he had long-since defined both on the diamond and at the turnstiles. This original black-and-white news service photo portrays the Bambino as he was awarded a lifetime pass for all National League games. Framed to 17-3/8 x 15-1/2”, the 7-5/8 x 5-1/2” visible image area shows Ruth clad in a suit coat eyeing the pass he holds in his left hand. Original caption sheet and 1935 stampings are visible on the reverse.
The photo displays beautifully and shows minor creases consistent with newsroom handling. The frame allows the reverse to be viewed. The original caption sheet shows a "9-11-35" date and "International News Photos" identifier. A stamping on the photo's reverse reads "Received Examiner Reference Library Sep 16 1935."
