The National League record holder for career shutouts (90) and wins (373, tied with Christy Mathewson), Hall of Famer Grover Cleveland Alexander (d.1950) authored the bold scripting on this baseball, as well. The medium is an unofficial sphere manufactured by “Fishman’s” in Springfield, Illinois, a town not far from Galesburg, Illinois, where a 22-year-old Alexander began his professional career by going 15-8 for the Class D Galesburg Boosters in 1909. The orb presents nicely with minor surface abrasions and Alexander’s black-ink fountain pen signature resonates (“6”) strength with a brief interruption in the surname preventing higher assessment. Single-signed Alexander keepsakes are about as rare as his remarkable mound prowess! Full photo LOA from JSA.
