Give a big college cheer for this extremely rare double-sided pennant. Presented is a c.1950s college football pennant featuring the University of Georgia on one side and University of Iowa on the other. This unique 28” full-size flag displays in attractive (EX) condition with strong details including a remarkable Bulldog mascot appliqué on the red on blue UGA side. The nearly full Hawkeye Seal appliqué on the gold on blue UI side bears the legal name “State University of Iowa” which has not been used for everyday purposes since 1964. More on our website.
Records show the represented universities have never played each other. The prevailing theory is that this pennant is a salesman’s sample. This unusual piece is not two pennants adhered back to back, it is one piece of felt fabric with different graphics on the two surfaces. Additional condition notes are: the attached tassels are partial, the Iowa appliqué shows an out of register ghosting effect on the lettering and Hawkeye emblem, there are typical pinholes on the accent strip at the wide end, the graphics show light to moderate cracks however they remain bold and appealing.
