Credited with pioneering color printing techniques for children’s books, McLoughlin Bros. publishing of New York also created an array of picture books, puzzles, board games and paper dolls prior to being absorbed by Milton Bradley in 1920. Among their more exciting sports themed issues is this c.1888 complete set (11/11) of New York baseball team die cut paper dolls. Each of these (11) early baseball representatives has been encapsulated and designated Authentic by leading certification service SGC. The burgundy and white clad, blank-backed figures appear in a variety of poses with descriptive titles noted on the flip as follows: 1.) “Hands on Legs Facing Left”; 2.) “Crouch Square Buckle”; 3.) “Crouch, Elbows In”; 4.) Crouch, Rectangular Buckle”; 5.) Batting; 6.) Hand at Hat; 7.) Left Arm Dangles; 8.) Right Hand Over Left Arm”; 9.) Throwing; 10.) Back View; 11.) Street Clothes (man in green suit). Also present is a loose “New York” title scroll.
