Belying his team’s inconsistencies throughout his 18-year career (1955-1972), Roberto Clemente won four batting titles, 12 Gold Glove honors and remained the face of the Bucs through championship runs and also-ran showings, alike. While the Pirates were enigmatic, Clemente was amazingly steady, ably representing the Pirates on the diamond and on this team-issued souvenir baseball. The lightly toned orb features a “Pittsburgh Pirates” stamping and is signed by Clemente on a side panel. Preceded by a “Best Wishes” salutation, Clemente’s scripting is executed in black ballpoint in his traditional “two-tier” style and shows (“7”) strength and clarity. Full photo LOA from JSA.
